I thought Bared To You by Sylvia Day would be just a copy cat book of Fifty Shades Of Grey, Boy I was wrong!!! I really enjoyed it now let me tell you why.
The story is told from the perspective of Eva Tramell, a 24-year-old girl who comes from money but wants to make it on her own in the world. She chooses to start at the bottom and work her way to the top (without her step-fathers help) and gets a job in an advertising agency where she meets the guy who owns the company she works for (and pretty much everything in NYC) Gideon Cross and it's just an instant connection between them. Sparks fly from the first glance (which she is sprawled out on the floor haha). And things go from there.
Eva is a tough, independent, caring, fit and driven. She went through a traumatic time when she was younger and it has made her stronger and the person she is today in the book.
Gideon Cross is successful, rich, tortured, passionate, controlling, but isn't afraid to admit when he screws up, tender, possessive, another gorgeous book boyfriend , absolutely and utterly in love with his Eva.
They both have similar tortured pasts which only brings them closer and more perfect for each other. They learn to be honest and completely open with one another which does wonders for their relationship. I liked how its wasn't your typical man whore seduces the virgin act, they both had pasts but nothing excessive. They both make mistakes in the book a lot of them but the love and passion for each other over rules anything bad that happens to them.
The secondary characters of the book you fall in love with just as much as the leads. Cary Eva's bi-sexual roommate and best friend is the ultimate big brother figure for her. Their bond is remarkable and he is always there when Eva needs him (and when she meets Gideon Cross it becomes more frequent haha). He's funny, caring, vain but in a good way, a model, so lovable and a very undecided bi-sexual young man. Eva's boss Mark and his partner Steven were delightful, fun, funny and just so kind and caring. Mark and Eva's work relationship becomes more than just work, they can talk to each other about their own relationships, Eva always has lunch with Mark and Steven where Steven just adores Eva and the couple forms a close bond to Eva. Eva has a Police Officer dad in California whom she is close to, speaks to at least once a week but he doesn't know what happened to Eva when she was younger. Her relationship with her mother strained at best she is to overprotective and basically stalks her own daughter, the step-father is always trying to hand her everything but she doesn't want it she wants to work for it herself (she also feels bad that her dad can not afford to do what her step-father can, so she doesn't want to rub it in his face).
The BDSM element is SO UNLIKE Fifty (which I think is great). There is no contract or anything like that, and it only comes up about 80% of the way through the book, and only briefly at that. Its more about the sexual control, but even then, it's not about the kinky f*ckery the same way that Fifty was. But don't let that deter you, this book is HOT, SEXY, deeply emotional, and a serious page turner. You will just have to read it to judge that for yourself. I just loved seeing these two people from such tortured and broken pasts coming together, finding peace, love and the ultimate trust in each other, making things work… its a beautiful story.
If you loved Fifty but didn't like all the sex, want a really great story-line and a strong independent lead female character then this book is for you.!
For such an amazing story 4 1/2 hearts out of 5
